Cilience is an alternative rock band that fuses jazz and world music based in Los Angeles. Front man Ian Stahl's powerful, clear vocals soar over Jason Fragoso's driving rhythms, Michael "Janzie" Janz's hypnotic synth sounds, and Eric DeLuca's melodic bass lines.
"Cilience" means recognizing those you meet as individuals with their own stories and complex lives; as individuals, we can make the changes we want to see in the world. Their songs address the various challenges that face our society while remaining memorable and accessible. Literature, social movements, the drought in California, and folklore from various cultures inspire their lyrics. They believe in creating high-energy music with a message for positive change.
The band formed in 2016 at the California Institute of the Arts. As their sound developed, Ian, Eric, Jason, and Janzie began touring throughout California. In their relatively short time as a band, Cilience has already played at famed venues such as the Viper Room and the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Winston’s OB in San Diego, and the Hotel Utah Saloon in San Francisco.
